The
Three Gorges Dam: Upheaval
and Deirdre Chetham, Executive Director of the Harvard University Asia Center and author of Before the Deluge: The Vanishing World of the Yangtze's Three Gorges will discuss the history and future of the controversial Three Gorges Dam project and its impact on more than 1.2 million people who must move as thirteen cities and and hundreds of towns and villages are flooded. She will focus on developments in the region since June, 2003, when the water level in the newly created reservoir rose over 200 feet, the first of three scheduled increases between now and 2009. The lecture will include a slide presentation of her photographs of the region.
